Day 17 - 3:10 p.m.

Hey all,
Sorry to be so late posting today. We have had wonderful company visiting with us today. A former student from the youth ministry days in Boaz, 19 years ago, who lives close to St. Pete now, Kylie. And some 'crazos ' from Summit (i say that with much love and affection) 'Crazos' because they drove down yesterday - - 9 hours - - and have just left to drive 9 hours back. They visited with us this morning, insisted on taking me to lunch, and have now left! Please pray for for my very, very good friends (crazos) traveling back to Atlanta.
Aaron is still very sore from yesterday's procedure. Aaron asked the doctor this morning how such a small guy could hurt him so much. (Of course he had to knock him out to do it. haha!! ) He got the penrose drain out this morning - two more drains to go and the IV. (which they had to restart yesterday due to dehydration). If things continue to progress, he will self intebate tomorrow! This will be an interesting process to say the least. If all goes well with that they will remove the G tube and the suction from his pouch and maybe we will get to leave one day early!!!!!! Provided there are no set backs - bladder has to be fully functioning - no dehydration and intebation process going smothly. We still have a few hurdles but not nearly as many as - - - yesterday!!
It is your prayers, kind- kind words, cards and messages that have made this journey
'do-able'. Thank you seems so inadequate to express my heart.
Please know we love each and every one of you. This experience has reminded me of the 'last' time we traveled this road - very different but in some ways the same. As people came into the hospital (almost 100) to be with me during Aaron's last surgery - each person who came in i felt was my best friend. Thank you for loving me and my sweet so well. Summit through this journey you have only added to the list of 'my best friends'. . .

Brother and Sister,

I hope these crazo's from Summit faired better than the last crazo! We sent Jimmy down there and next thing we know, Aaron is headed back to surgery :] I figure Jimmy told Aaron about some Marine that went out for a 26 mile marathon 10 days after surgery, and then dragged Aaron out for a run around the parking lot!

Glad to hear of further de-holeification. Denise, thanks for taking care of our Pastor for us! Brother, we look forward to seeing you and your bride back with us as soon as God permits.

Blessings,
CWM

Sounds like you had a really nice day! We did too! We had a huge milestone today and signed Caleb up for baseball this fall. Oh, our first adventure in sports! We also got to go see the Women's Facility at Northside Forsyth that Mark just finished building. It really is an amazing building! We are now sitting down to chicken quesadillas off the grill and some family games!

The boys are really missing you both! Our knock knock joke tonight isn't really funny, but both boys really do feel this way (and so do Mark and I)...

Congrats on further untethering. I was just remembering when I was in my 3rd yr of med school. I put in 6 of those SubClavian Central lines one day (by myself, with no anesthesia other than some local lidocaine -- just my 4th week out of the classroom and into the wards.) I remember the surgery resident that taught me saying, "when you feel the inserter [needle] hit the clavicle, just pull back a little and aim it a little more medial and south...."
Praise God for anesthesia (and someone besides me inserting the line.) Aim carefully tomorrow!

Denise and "Old Man,"

It was so great visiting with you today. It's funny that it had been so long since I've visited with either of you and it's like things just pick-up where they left off. I will continue to pray for you and hope that you get to go home in a few days.

Aaron, I wasn't even thinking when you asked me about Misti. I have her cell phone number in my phone. I called her tonight and told her where you are and that you asked about her and are proud of her. She is in Boaz, but is flying back tomorrow. She was so happy to hear that you asked about her.

You two take care. I do not plan to let so many years go by before we visit again. Maybe Jason and I will stop in Acworth on our next drive to Alabama. Love ya!!!

Aaron and Denise,

Glad to hear things are going well for you today. The invitation stands for ya'll to come up and skate with us tomorrow night at the church skate night! Just bring your IVs and tubes with you and have them roll along next to you. Seriously though, we can't wait to get you back here. I'd better go - Joshua is asking for some Chocky-milk and we wouldn't want to keep him waiting! :-)
Denise, Joshua's also ready for you to come play cars with him again soon!
Love to you both,
Dan Ratcliffe

Pastor Aaron and Denise,
I was hoping you had visitors today that was keeping you from posting an update. You had me worried when there wasn't one this morning. All of us obsessed bloggers can't wait that long in a day to get an update on our favorite couple. Know that you are both in my prayers often throughout the day. Also, to Denae, we are very greatful to have you're parents as a part of the body at Summit and you are very blessed to have them as parents. Thank you for sharing them with us!
We will miss you two in service tomorrow. In the future we'll try to keep the "crazos" locked up but I'm afraid there will be more that follow.
Miss ya,
Dee and family

I told Lori that you would end up needing surgery again, after eating McDonalds! She hates it when I'm right!!!

Hope you're feeling better soon. No more McDonalds - really no more! Then at least there won't be that hurdle...

Starting Sunday off with prayer for continued healing, a working bladder, and that you two are reminded that we love you. I told several people about the doxology quip and they all thought it was clever. While there are plenty of verses that have the word "flow" in them, I don't feel right using the Word of God that way, so here is my favorite water related verse which hopefully will bring you more strength than groans:

"Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, whose trust is the LORD. He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit." - Jeremiah 17:8

Be not anxious in the drought,
Canyon

Pastor and Denise,
It feels peculiar knowing that, again, we will be going to church and neither of you can be there. It's just not the same even though I have confidence that whoever will be delivering God's message today will do a terrific job. Every week, I have still felt the presence of the Holy Spirit because I know that Jesus has a special fortress set up for your flock right now to keep Satan, (I can't stand him) away. Please know that I KNOW that Christ is our firm foundation and He is the reason for our worship. It's just that we know that your family was sent to Summit because God picked you and we needed you there as our shepherd. We were a wreck, remember? So, in your absence, we feel a void. Thank you for always directing the glory to the Father, rather than to yourself.

I hope today is a great day and the soreness goes away.
Leigh
